So....as it relates to Van 1....any thoughts on what we might want to pack/bring? I know I over packed last time in some areas but there were some things I wished I had brought but didn't....I didn't bring any chairs for Gregg and I and I think I would have liked to have them especially for the first Van 1 off time. The second Van 1 off time will be sleep time so finding a good place for that is most important.

Anyway, knowing that we will have the larger 15 passenger van, what is anyone else thinking of bringing? If you remember what I had for Van 1 last time, I had that tall multi drawer organizer that worked well in OUR van. Everyone had their own drawer where they could put their iPod's/Garmins/Gu/vest/headlamp/tail lamp etc....I had one large drawer dedicated specifically to medical/first aid that was for everyone's use......I guess we don't all need to pack everything on the suggested list but it might be good to have a plan for who can and will bring what.

Do my other Van 1 mates WANT me to bring the organizer? Yes, it does take up about 15 sq in of floor space BUT it does give a really convenient place to stash important stuff...

Food - Gregg and I will want our own cooler in all likelihood. He is going to cook up a turkey breast for us to eat but beyond that we are both very sensitive to food smells and the resulting contamination that can occur in coolers. He despises fruit, tuna fish and onions and related smells and I despise onions & bell peppers and related smells. We have a small/med sized cooler that we would bring for our food and beverages. I think that is another thing we way over did last time as well in Van 1 was food/beverages. Plenty of places along most parts of the routes to grab as you go, not to mention at the major exchanges.

Anyway, I'm getting into "nesting" mode and will be starting to pack in the next day or so, just wondering what everyone else is thinking....

The organizer was awesome, we had one in our van in 2009 as well...so yes, if its avail please bring it. I propose you bring whatever you feel you want to....like you said, its the larger van. Speaking for Cindy and I, we are going to do the opposite of 2009. In 2009 we brought everything and the sink, yet found we had either no use or no time for it. We will pack light. I was not going to bring chairs but since we might have a bit of down-time at the finish, i may pack them. If the van comes with a roof rack I will connect my soft sided cargo carrier to the roof for us (and whoever else) to put our "key west" bag(s) in....this worked awesome for the Keys100 race we did last year. I have a big "boat" cooler we can use to consolidate drinks etc....I'll have everything laid out on the driveway and we can determine needs and space when we are all together with total baggage.....I'm not particular at all as to where my drinks or food sits in, but I will have an army of electronics and gizmos....so please please check the van for a working 12v outlet up front before you take the van Smile Smile

I just called and the vans do NOT have luggage racks so we will need to stow everything inside. I'm sure we will have plenty of room in the larger 15 passenger vans though.... Smile

Dave and I were wondering about a few things. First, how cold is it at night? Do we need warm clothes to run in? Even during the summer Wasatch Back got pretty cold during the night so we (mostly me) layered up for the night time runs. Do we need a sleeping bag or will a blanket be good? Having to pay for each piece of checked luggage we are trying to go as light as possible. And how is the hummidity? I have heard it can be pretty bad down in Florida but I am hoping not so much during the cooler weather. I can't think of anything else right now but if their is anything else us Utahns need to know about running in Florida let me know. Only 3 more days!

I think the temps will be in the low/mid 60's over night....I don't know what your van's plan is for sleeping (honestly don't know what our van's plan is either...lol). I think for now Gregg and I are planning to bring 1 light weight sleeping bag and one blanket. Some of the exchanges have indoor sleeping so I would think just a blanket would be good at that point...but you might be on the ground. I know when we ran this in 2009 (Central FL not the Keys), Gregg and brought our heavy sleeping bags. He ended up sleeping outside on the ground and was glad to have had it. I slept in the front passenger seat and found it to be a bit much.....

I'm sure the humidity will be more of a factor for you here in Florida so I would definitely bring light weight layers. I plan to actually run in just shorts and a jog bra with MAYBE a tank over top.....at night I may want arm sleeves to start but I'm sure once I'm going I'll ditch them.

Is there anything I can bring FOR you so you don't have to pay for extra luggage?

I should add, that part of my plan for bringing only a blanket for me is that during the relay I don't really sleep much and would likely have more clothes on than I normally sleep in too so I'm not sweating it this time around. Gregg and I have worked SWAT for 4 Ragnar events where we really don't get any sleep at all for 30+ hours while we are on the course. I've gotten quite good at not sleeping or just grabbing a cat nap in the driver seat. LOL
